Movies and Romantic Videos

Movies and Romantic Videos

There was a time when music videos acted as trailers for the films that they were from. Some of the most romantic songs of all time are from movies. It amazes me how a song can take me back to a place and time in my life and that song is usually from a movie that I saw. These are some of the best that I could locate. Almost all of them are from the 1980s and beyond because that is when the music video really began.

First up is a video from a version of robin Hood that got it right. When romance is the center of the story it has always worked well. Robin Hood like so many other great stories is really just a tale of a love between one man and one woman.

The next is a song that you hardly ever hear, but the song along with the video and the movie are all unforgettable. The movie was the Princess Bride.

The next song and video is from Dirty Dancing, proving that not all romantic songs have to be ballads.

Same leading man and a completely different kind of romantic film. The movie was Ghost and the song is a classic.

No collection of music videos from romantic films could be complete without the biggest and best of them all. The movie is of course Titanic and the video is My Heart Will Go On.

I would now like to post two bonus videos because they are two of my personal favorites.
The director of both films, Rocky and the Karate Kid 2 would most likely argue that both films are romances at their heart. Stallone has said that with out the romance his Rocky does not work as a film and would not have won best picture. I am do not have to tell anyone who is a fan of the second Karate Kid film that it is a romance disguised as an action film. This song proves that point.

The last video is from a romance that is in danger of being forgotten. Please take a day, perhaps Valentines day, to check out Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Movie Couples, Twice the Love

Some of the best and most memorable films that we have seen feature on screen couples that have done a series of films together. This post is about those couples who have fallen in love at least twice on screen. The most memorable of these couple and the most successful of all time are of course William Powell and Myrna Loy. Famous for the Thin Man films they also starred in Double Wedding, Libeled Lady, I Love You Again and Love Crazy. Though never a couple in real life they were the most popular movie couple of all time.

The next couple that I want to look at have only done two films so far together, but I believe deserve to be included. Richard Dreyfuss and Holly Hunter have starred together in Always and Once Around. Both films are bitter sweet romances where love and death play a huge part in each film.

Next up is a couple that has done three movies so far together and I am hoping for a dozen more. They fit like a hand in a boxing glove. Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence are well on their way to become our best modern onscreen couple.

Here is a look at a bunch of couples who did not make my list, but who knows if they continue to act some of them will make a future list. The one couple that you will see that I could make a case for is from Dirty Dancing, they are in that movie and Red Dawn, but Red Dawn is not a romance.

Please take a moment to like this post on Stumbleupon and if there is a couple that needs to be included please leave a comment and I will see what I can do. Thank you for visiting the Holiday Network.

More Romantic Short Films For Valentines Day

More Romantic Short Films For Valentines Day

The last post on this subject proved to be so popular that I will be showing you a few more short films for Valentines day. Here at the Holiday Network we try our best to give the audience what they want as long as they do not request anything Twilight related. The first of the short films that I would like to offer today is for all of those kids who grew up watching the Power Rangers.

Yes, a romantic film with a Power Rangers theme. Love comes in all shapes sizes and costumes. I had a crush on a VR Trooper.

I have always thought that there is a fine line between stalking and romance. That person you are with now was at one time a distant and unattainable object of your affections. You probably thought that he or she was way out of your league and would be crazy to settle for someone like you. You were a stable boy who could only manage to say as you wish to the beautiful princess who was yelling at you or a lovely maid to your wicked stepsisters longing to go to the ball and meet prince charming. Maybe even you were a girl who was busy looking for her sister who had ran away from home after revealing her mutant powers and freezing your home town. While looking for her you fell in love with a block headed guy who talks to reindeer. Is that how it was? No, you were introduced by a friend?

Sequel time. This is the sequel to the movie that you have just watched.

TV Romances, Beauty and the Beast

TV Romances, Beauty and the Beast

There have been hundreds of romantic television series since the beginning ov broadcast tv. I could list them here, but for me and those at the Holiday Network there is one television series that towers over all of the others. It seemed that it set out to become the most romantic show ever and for those of us who watched it during its first run on television we would say that it achieved that goal.

The show is Beauty and The Beast. Do not confuse it with the sad and pale reboot on the CW network. The orginal starring Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman is one of a kind. The thing that has kept it from becoming an all time classic is that it ended poorly. the network that produced it wanted to continue the show without Linda Hamilton and decided for a reason that still boggles the mind to kill her character off rather than having the two characters walk off into the sunset together. A grand retelling of a fairy tale that missed out on a fairy tale ending. That said, the seasons that the leads were together are gold and I would like to share this as a Valentines gift to all the romantics out there.

We do not have broadcast rights to this show so I would suggest that fans of the show track it down online and invested in the complete series box set.

You may also wish to visit the original source material in the form of the French film that is consider the best version of the Beauty and The Beast fable.

There is a brand new version of the story that has been shown in Europe, but has yet to reach the USA. This version looks stunning.

Movies, The First Kiss

some-kind-of-wonderful

We all remember our first kiss and rarely did it live up to that first kiss that we remember from a movie that we saw. The Valentine’s day theme at the Holiday Network has led me to do a post about the great onscreen kisses. I am not going to include all of the movies best kisses. Too many and everyone would have a different opinion of which should have been included and or left out. I am going to include my favorite moments. This is a list that I selected and if you disagree there is a comment box below where you can make an argument.
If the argument is well made I may add your selection into this post.
Before I begin I am going to say that I am leaving out the kiss in Lady and the Tramp.
I am going to avoid animated characters, it is not fare to the humans involved.
What?
You really want that kiss included?
Okay, find, just this once.

The next scene kiss has to be from the biggest film in history. No, it’s not Avatar. I will rephrase, the film that sold the most tickets ever. Gone With The Wind. Let me start the intro by stating that the book is better than the movie. The movie is amazing, but the book has a great deal of stuff that is missing from the film. Back to the kiss. I love this kiss because it comes near the middle of the film. Rhett is actually telling Scarlett the truth and she is so angry that she does not hear him.

The next kiss is going to be from a movie that will be featured strongly in the post about the holiday that follows Saint Valentine’s day. The movie is the Quiet Man. There is a first kiss that is great and I would argue that the second kissing scene is off the charts.

Will She See You As Boyfriend Material?

The second kissing scene from the Quiet Man is one that I had to include because it is probably my second favor onscreen kiss. The reactions that both character have to the kiss. She knows that she has him at this point and it is only a matter of time before the proposal comes. While he knows that he is cooked. This woman has him forever and there is no way out. It’s the moment where you realize that he is going to be a prisoner, a prisoner of love, but still a prisoner and the only thing to do is to kiss her again.

Next is the guess what, we are more than friends kiss. I love the way it is set up, I love the way it is filmed, I love the music. I love these two characters. I love how only teenagers who are in love could be so confused about love. The first time I saw this film I wanted to beat Keith up. How could you not see it Keith. Watts was in every way shape and form hotter than Amanda Jones. Pardon me guys, I just love this movie so much. Back to the point of this. She ask can you deliver a kiss that kisses. Well, it takes two people to do that and I have yet to talk to anyone about Some Kind Of Wonderful that does not mention this kiss. It is perfection.

A super hero deserves a super kiss and it is the romance that makes the first three Spiderman movies better than the newer films. The love story is why so many of you have watched them a second or third time and not the effects. The key to all of the films is that Spiderman/ Peter Parker is not really trying to save the whole world all he is doing is trying to save the girl that he has always loved.

The real first kiss. Even though they kiss earlier in the film this feels like the actual first kiss. Silver Linings Playbook is a strange romance that someone works. You do not have to be perfect people to find true love. Damaged people need love to.

This has gone so quickly and there are so many more kisses to look at I think that I am going to have to do a part two. Thanks again for visiting and please take a moment to like this site on Stumbleupon and to share it with a friend.

Valentines Day Movies and Star Crossed Lovers

Here at the Holiday Network we have the choice where to cover ever single holiday or only the major ones. I am planning a post for Groundhog’s day, but Valentines day has so many more fans and so many more movies.

Today I would like to talk about some of the movies that I love and the couples that make them work. Also these movies will be both girl and guy friendly. After all what good is a Valentines day movie if the guy in your life will not want to watch it. We know what movies we are talking about. There will be no pure chick flicks of this list.

The first Valentines day movie, we will consider all loves stories to fit this description, is an all time classic. Like Romeo and Juliet, which I will get to later, this film features what are called star crossed lovers. Their love is the one thing that they cannot live without and it is also the thing that will destroy them in the end.

The movie is Wuthering Heights. The version is the only one that really counts. The year was 1939 and it stars Merle Oberon and Lawrence Olivier.

Next we should look at the greatest of all star crossed love stories. Romeo and Juliet. I am going to go with the one that almost won the Oscar. I am going to go with the one that is most guy friends, this is due to the fact that Juliet is played by the amazing Olivia Hussey.

iMemories - Preserve Your Memories on DVD

The next film is Titanic. Similar to Romeo and Juliet as far as the plot goes, but there are a few thousand films that I could say that about. Watching the film it feels like these lovers have lived and loved a lifetime together in the space of two days.

Next is a movie that I have mixed emotions about. Every woman in my life loves this film and I have to admit that I have watched it a few times. The movie is Dirty Dancing and these star crossed lovers actually survive the story.

The last movie that could fall into a lot of categories. Love crazy would probably fit it best, but I can always mention it in future post. This on screen couple is awesome together and since they seem to enjoy working together we can look forward to many more films featuring them. The movie is Silver linings Playbook.

Holiday Music Videos

Holiday Music Videos

I am one of those people who love Christmas music. I start listening around the first of November and do not stop until Halloween of the next year. My love of all music holiday has forced me to avoid the standard stuff on FM radio each year. I hope that the lineup will change each year, but it is usually the same twenty to thirty songs on every station. The problem with this is that there are hundreds of songs that get missed from years past and hundreds of new ones each year.
Today I would like to highlight the underplayed songs.
These are my picks for the songs that should get more plays.

First up is Faith Hills’s Where Are You Christmas.

This has rapidly become one of my all time favorites, Hall and Oates, It Came Upon A Midnight Clear.

Darlene Love is famous for one holiday song, but I love the one that she did for the movie Home Alone 2.

Darlene Love – All Alone On Christmas from Noor Ahmed on Vimeo.

Next up is the best Acapella performance of any song that I have ever heard. It is Martina McBride singing Oh Holy Night.

Next is a song from Annie Lennox, born on Christmas by the way, I thought this song would be come a classic when I heard it, but so far it has gone unnoticed. The song is Universal Child.

The Holiday Network will always go back in time where ever possible to find classics (wait until you see what we have for Valentines day) and Christmas songs have been a staple of the recording industry since the beginning.

This is the most familiar Christmas song of them all. The Christmas Song with a little twist it is a duet in this case with both Nat King Cole & Frank Sinatra.

Thank you for visiting my site. Please take a moment to bookmark this post and if there is a song you think should have been included please leave a comment and if I agree I will post it.

Now if you have a moment to spare, please check out the sponsor for this post.
Audio books. They have a great 30 day trial offer. It is totally free and I just listened to a Game of Thrones book. The books are different from the series. A lot more in the books to absorb. Did I mention that it is a free trial. That is like a free book or two.

Go To Holiday Movies

There are a half dozen or so must see every year holiday films and the cool thing is that no two list of these films is going to be the same. The films that each of us pick will have something to do with our ages and the times that we were going through when we saw them.
I must see It’s A Wonderful Life each year. The first time that I saw it I was maybe fifteen or sixteen and it did not become a must see until my late twenties. I needed to grow up a bit to love this film. I saw Scrooge, the musical, when I was ten and it is my favorite version of A Christmas Carol to watch. I have to see it each year. The movie The Three Godfathers starring John Wayne is the only Christmas western and I love this movie.
What ever you love is okay. It could be a holiday episode from your favorite series growing up or Frosty the Snowman. What ever gets you into the spirit of the season is cool.
Today I want to share a few trailers and a film or two that you may like or even love.

First up is what is considered the greatest Christmas episode of any tv series ever.
I am talking about the Jack Benny Christmas Special.

Next is the best Santa Claus movie of them all. Do I have to even say it? Okay, Miracle on 34th Street.

When I thought up the idea of the Holiday Network I wanted a place to go and see all of the great holiday films in one place. Now have a look at the Trailer for the Three Godfathers.

Last up is a movie that I look forward to seeing with my daughter when she has out grown Frozen. The movie is Prancer.
